This Week At Three Oaks

This Week at Three Oaks – April 29-May 3, 2024

Dear Students & Parents / Guardians

Hope you all enjoyed the weekend and took some time to get outside and soak up the sunshine!

30 more classes until exams start, and this will be here before you know it with all of the events leading up to this.   Good attendance and being on time is essential for your success in earning your credits. We are almost there.

This is a short week with there being no classes on Friday due to Association / Union meetings.

All the best to both our Women’s and Men’s AAA Rugby Teams who are both in the finals today at 3:15 & 4:30  at the King’s Edgehill  Highlanders Rugby Classic. Go TOSH!

Congratulations to Jonas Binkley and Zachary Connell who won a silver medal yesterday at the Doubles Badminton provincials.

Garbage Sorting

It has been brought to my attention that as a school we have to all do our part to do a much better job when it comes to sorting our garbage, and making sure that we put our compost, our waste, recyclables ( milk containers, cans) and paper in their proper places.

From Monday and moving forward,  your classrooms will all be equipped with waste, compost, recyclable bins and a box for paper.  Garbage cans around the school and in the cafeteria have all been marked accordingly. It is not up to our custodial team to be sorting the garbage of young adults, so  it is important that we  are ALL  mindful about where we  put our garbage.

We have been sorting garbage in the Summerside area for almost 30 years ( Since the summer of 1994), and as a whole Island for 25 years.  This is not new.  We all have a role to play to ensure that our landfills are not filled with items that can be composted or recycled. Thank you for your cooperation.

Spring is here!  TOSH is excited to be creating an outdoor cafeteria and greenspace.  If you are working in your gardens and have some perennials you are dividing, we would love to have them.  Plant donations can be dropped off outside the main doors, or please contact Tammy Craig, txcraig@edu.pe.ca   to arrange pick up.

Did you use the heavy equipment simulator when it was here?

The PEI Roadbuilders are looking for some feedback from the students regarding the simulator.  Their two year deal with ACOA and the Department of Education is up and this data would be helpful to determine whether the PEI Roadbuilders will continue rotating the simulator amongst the schools next year.  I understand this is a very busy time of year but I was wondering if it would be possible to get all of your students to complete a short Google Form.  The form should take less than five minutes to complete.  In addition to the simulator feedback, there are two questions I would like to ask that would assist in my role as Youth Transitions Manager.  I attached the link to the Google Form so you can preview the questions and provide feedback before the form is given to the students.

Our Student Occupational Health and Safety Group have provided the link for the Young Worker’s course - a great course to add to your resume.

This course is tailored for young workers on Prince Edward Island. A young worker is defined as anyone under the age of 24. Generally, inexperienced young workers are more likely to get hurt on the job than more experienced workers. This course provides essential knowledge and skills to safely navigate workplace hazards. From understanding rights and responsibilities to practical hazard identification and control measures, young workers will gain the confidence and competence needed to prioritize safety in any work environment.
