This Week at Three Oaks April 27-May 2, 2026
Dear Students & Parents/Guardians:
As we move into the final week of April, it is hard to believe how quickly the time is passing. We now have approximately 30 classes remaining before final exams begin, and these next few weeks will be busy ones.
Please note that this is a short week, as there will be no classes for students on Friday, May 1 due to staff union meetings.
With a limited number of classes left, it is important for students to stay focused, attend regularly, be on time, and keep up with assignments and assessments. There is a great deal happening both inside and outside of the classroom, so staying organized and proactive will be key to success.
We encourage students to reach out to their teachers for extra help when needed and to make the most of every learning opportunity as we move toward the end of the semester.
Let’s finish April strong and continue to support one another along the way.
Attendance Matters - I would like to take a moment to speak about the importance of good attendance.
We are seeing a number of students missing a significant amount of class time, and that is concerning. This trend is impacting classrooms across our country and Three Oaks is no different. Every class students miss is a missed opportunity to learn, stay on track, and be successful.
Presently attendance data at Three Oaks is quite concerning. The following is based on 851 students:
0 days missed - 82 students
3 days or less - 302 students
Between 3-5 days - 120 students
More than 5 - 10days - 222 students
More than 10 - 15 days - 75 students
More than 15- 20 days - 36 students
This equates to the following:
Satisfactory attendance - 310 students
At Risk - 175 students
Chronic - 233 students
Severe Chronic - 130 student
I encourage students to ask themselves an important question:
If I had the same attendance at a job as I do at school, what would the outcome be?
Attendance is not just about school—it is about building habits that will carry forward into your future.
As we move toward the end of the school year, I encourage all students to make a commitment to attend every day, be on time, and stay engaged. The finish line is in sight—finish strong. You won’t be disappointed.
Strong Scents - I would also like to take a moment to remind everyone that we are a scent-free school.
Recently, we have received a number of concerns expressed regarding the use of body sprays, perfumes, and colognes in our building. While it is important to come to school clean and well-groomed, strong scents can have a significant impact on others, especially those with scent sensitivities or allergies. These reactions can include headaches, difficulty concentrating, and other health concerns.
We ask all students to be mindful and respectful of others by avoiding the use of scented products at school.
Being part of a school community means looking out for one another. Choosing not to wear strong scents is a simple way to help ensure that everyone can feel comfortable and safe in their learning environment. Thank you for your cooperation.
Garbage - I would like to remind all students of the importance of keeping our school and our grounds clean.
We continue to find wrappers and garbage on the floors inside the building, as well as in our parking lots and surrounding areas. Our custodial staff have been spending a great deal of time picking up after others, and this should not be the case.
I am confident that students are not dropping garbage on the floor at home—and the same expectation applies here at school.
Please take pride in our school by using the garbage and recycling bins provided and cleaning up after yourself. A clean environment reflects respect for our school, our staff, and each other. Let’s all do our part.
Phones - I would like to remind all students of the importance of not having phones out during class time.
At the beginning of each class, phones are to be placed in the classroom phone hotels and can be retrieved at the end of the period. This expectation is in place to support student learning.
There is strong evidence that cell phones are a distraction and take away from your ability to focus, engage, and fully understand the material being taught.
Do yourselves a favour—disconnect during class time. Give yourself the opportunity to be present, stay focused, and get the most out of your learning. Also having a phone during an assessment also results in receiving a 0 on the assessment for academic dishonesty. Thank you for your cooperation.
Easter Seals - Last Wednesday, we welcomed Easter Seals Ambassador, Rowen MacDonald to Three Oaks and presented him a cheque for Easter Seals. Thank you to all the students and staff who donated to charity jars, and who baked and bought for our bake sale. Your support was much appreciated, and will make a difference in the lives of those living with disabilities here on PEI.
Congratulations to the TOSH Grade 11-12 Wind Ensemble who received a "Superior" rating at the International Rhythms Music Festival in Toronto on Saturday!
