Mental Health TIP:

As part of Mental Health week, her is another tip:

The theme for the Canadian Mental Health Association’s Mental Health Week is Unmasking. Masking is a coping strategy we use, whether we are aware or not, to fit in and stay safe. We may suppress our emotions, personality traits, behaviours, or symptoms from others. Stigma (labeling, stereotyping or holding negative beliefs) can also be a factor in masking. To help people to unmask, we can:

  • Fight stigma (learn and share facts, correct misconceptions)
  • Lead by example – being yourself and being kind gives others the freedom to unmask
  • Ask twice – people often say they are “fine” automatically.
  • Give people permission to share their real feelings.
  • Learn about systemic oppression.
  • Speak up
